A Weekend Bathroom Makeover

Author: GuestPoster Category: Bathroom

Giving your bathroom a face-lift doesn’t mean you have to rip out and replace your bathroom vanity and fixtures; there a several things that can be done in one weekend that will give your bathroom a fresh, new look.  Without spending a lot of money, there are ways to revive a dull, drab bathroom and give it new life.  Any one of the ideas mentioned below will make a difference in the comfort and look of your bathroom.

The first assignment won’t cost you a dime but will generate huge results.  Take everything out of the drawers and cabinets, off the counters, out of the medicine cabinet or vanity; make it look the way it did the day you moved in.  Throw away any outdated medications or cosmetics and then choose on the things you really need; and find the most convenient place to put them.  Anything that is not essential should not be stored in the bathroom, find a new place for these things, or better yet, if you don’t use it, toss it.

Once you’ve decided what absolutely has to be in the bathroom, decide what you need to store it neatly and accessibly.  There are many inexpensive storage options available; drawer dividers, clear plastic boxes and bins and clear cosmetic bags will keep drawers and vanity cupboards organized.  For things that must stay on the counter, find decorative baskets or other storage options that will enhance the décor.

Consider using turntables underneath the bathroom sink for the storage of hairspray, shaving creams, body lotion, etc., this will get these unsightly items off the bathroom counter and give you easy access to them when you need them.  Also, a pull-out towel bar inside the bottom cabinet gives you’re a place to store cleaning rags, wet washcloths and to dry small hand washable items.

You can never have too many towel racks in a bathroom; they can be used not only for hanging damp towels, but for drying sweaters and other clothing items that need to air dry.  Install a towel bar for each member of the family, each person will know which towel is theirs and they can be reused a couple of times which will cut down on laundry.  If there is not room for extra towel bars, you can use decorative hooks for hanging towels or robes.  Install them near the shower, on the back of the door, or near the sink; they don’t take a lot of space, but will still get clutter off the floor.

Finally, add some color or change the colors you are currently using; a simple new rug or shower curtain is an inexpensive addition that can change the look of your bathroom.  Look for inexpensive pieces of art; these can add color and give the room a focal point.  Finally, if you have natural light, a plant can be a beautiful addition to a bathroom; it will enjoy the moisture and steam and will give the room a fresh, green look.
